For many, Milton Glaser is the personification of American graphic design. Best known for co-founding New York Magazine and creating the enduring I ♥ NY campaign, the full breadth of Glaser’s remarkable artistic output is revealed in this documentary portrait, MILTON GLASER: TO INFORM AND DELIGHT. From newspapers and magazine designs, to interior spaces, logos and brand identities, to his celebrated prints, drawings, posters and paintings, the documentary offers audiences a much richer appreciation for one of the great modern renaissance men.
Milton Glaser (b.1929) is among the most celebrated graphic designer in the United States. He has had the distinction of one-man-shows at the Museum of Modern Art and the Georges Pompidou Center. In 2004 he was selected for the lifetime achievement award of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. As a Fulbright scholar, Glaser studied with the painter, Giorgio Morandi in Bologna, and is an articulate spokesman for the ethical practice of design. He opened Milton Glaser, Inc. in 1974, and continues to produce an astounding amount of work in many fields of design to this day.

Charging Per Hour vs. Per Project
If you’re a corporate designer, you don’t have to worry about things like how to bill your clients, as you’re likely either on salary or have a predetermined hourly rate and regular work schedule.
But for freelancers, figuring out how best to charge clients for work completed can be a nightmare. After all, you want to charge clients a fair price, make a decent living, and get enough work so that you’re not struggling to find the next project.
In the world of web design, there are two basic ways most designers charge: per hour or per project. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method, and there are situations where one method works better than the other.

El Cajon CDC Painting Project-Call for Entries
Downtown El Cajon CDC is looking for artists to paint utility boxes in El Cajon. If you are selected you will receive $125 for painting a utility box. Follow the link at the bottom of this message to apply.
Beginning in July 2010, artists and community members are highly encouraged to contribute colorful designs that highlight qualities unique to El Cajon - its past happenings, signature community events, distinctive businesses, historic buildings, natural beauty, culture, and more. Also brand new, participating artists will receive a stipend of $125!

There's an App for That
There are people behind those little icons on your iPhone. Some applications are products of giant corporations that spend thousands of dollars to develop, market and maintain them; others are the brainchildren of dudes sitting at home in their underwear. We chose to get to know the latter. (Reporter’s note: Where are all the female and/or Android developers?)
